SURGICAL CHRONICLES is the official journal of the Surgical Society of Northern Greece and covers all aspects of modern surgery. The published manuscript can be written in greek or English language.

SURGICAL CHRONICLES welcomes submission for following manuscript types:
Original articles. Original experimental or clinical studies.
Reviews. Literature reviews on an interesting topic. The journal may ask from potential authors to submit review articles on certain topics of interest.
Case Reports. Brief descriptions of interesting cases or interventions.
Technical Notes (“How I do it”). Brief description of a new technique or modification of an older technique.
Educational laparoscopic videos. Laparoscopic videos of educational value accompanied by a short comment from the author. Any format of video is acceptable. The video should not generally exceed 200MB.
Images in Surgery. An image of a rare disease or unusual presentation of a common disease with exceptional didactic interest. Please submit no more than 1-2 images, along with a short description (about 300 words) and 1-2 References.
Letters to the Editor-Brief communication. Comment on a manuscript recently published in the journal.


Manuscript submission. All manuscripts must be submitted electronically through the website of the journal at https://www.surgchronicles.gr.
 
All manuscripts are submitted to peer review by two independent reviewers. Decision upon acceptance or rejection of the manuscript should be expected at about one month after submission. 

 

Publication charge

In order to improve the quality of the journal the editorial board decided to set a publication charge for publication of case reports , Images in surgery and letters to the editor. This charge is 100 euros pro publication for case reports and 50 euros for publication of “Images in Surgery” and “Letters to the editor”.

All other submissions (research articles, original articles, case series, “How I do it”, “Educational laparoscopic videos”) are published free of charge.

This charge applies only for international submissions (submissions outside Greece). Charges are payable after final acceptance of the manuscript and must be paid before correction of proofs and publication.



Manuscript preparation
All submitted manuscripts must contain following parts: (1) Title page, (2) Abstract, (3) Main Text, (4) References, (5) Figures and Tables.

Title Page
In the title page please state:
-          Title of the article
-          Name and affiliation of each author
-          Department(s) and/or institution(s), where the study was conducted
-          Name, postal and e-mail addresses, telephone and facsimile numbers of the author responsible for correspondence
-          Sources of funding for research

Abstract
Abstract should contain about 250 words, in a structured format as follows:
-          Background/aim of the study. State background leading to the necessity of the study and the hypothesis set in the study.
-          Material (Patients) and Methods. Describe briefly the design of the study.
-          Results. State the main results of the study.
-          Conclusion. State the main conclusion.

Abstracts of case reports should be formatted as follows:
-          Background. State why the reported case or intervention is unique or usual.
-          Case presentation. Briefly describe the presented case or intervention.
-          Conclusion. State the conclusion drawn from this case or intervention.
Submissions in the sections “Letters to the Editor”, “How I do it”, and “Images in Surgery” do not require structured abstracts.
Every submission should be accompanied by a brief abstract (about 2-3 sentences) to appear below the title of the manuscript, when published.
Please provide 4-6 keywords at the end of the abstract for indexing purposes.


Main Text
The main Text should be structured as follows:
-          Introduction. State the purpose of the study and give a short review of the current literature.
-          Material (Patients) and Methods. Describe in detail the design of the study with appropriate information about patients or experimental animals.
-          Results. Report concisely the main results of the study. Please use tables or figures if necessary.
-          Discussion. Comment on the results and their significance with reference to current literature.
The main text of case reports should be structured as follows:
-          Introduction. State the importance of the case in view of the current literature.
-          Case presentation. Analytical presentation of the case or intervention.
-          Discussion. Comment on the rarity or didactic value of the reported case or intervention.

Figures and Tables
Any figure format is acceptable for publication. We strongly encourage the submission of coloured illustrations. The figures and Legends should be placed at the end of the manuscript.
Tables should be incorporated in the main manuscript, directly after the figures and their legends.

References
Cite references in order of appearance in text using Arabic numbers. Reference citations in the text should be identified by numbers in square brackets (e.g., [1]). Only references that are mentioned in the text should be listed. Use the Index Medicus style for abbreviations of journal titles. List all authors if there are four or fewer; for five or more authors, list the first three and add "et al." All authors are responsible for the accuracy of their references.
